Our Rich History
Founded on Quaker values
A unique community takes shape
The organization was particular about the plot of land they chose for this future community; they wanted it to feel integrated with the Haverford campus, while ensuring the space was large enough to allow their dream of a retirement community that felt like a college campus to become a reality.
After years of searching, the Board came to an agreement and broke ground on July 9, 1987. The Quadrangle opened its doors in June of 1989, establishing a Residents Association, in order to actively address residents' concerns and improve life for the entire community.
More than 45 years later, The Quadrangle, under the leadership of the Residents Association, continues to serve residents of all backgrounds on 74 beautiful acres—surrounded by woods and wildlife, with walking paths, a central pond, garden plots, and tennis, croquet, and bocce courts.
Residents' voices are integral in community operations, and their talents and energy invigorate programs and activities, ranging from crafting and games to musical groups, dances, philosophy discussions, and nature walks.
And staying true to its Quaker values and academic roots, The Quadrangle celebrates and fosters the life of the mind—offering older adults a supportive, caring environment to fulfill their passions and find purpose during this chapter in life.
