Paul and Terry Klaassen founded Sunrise in 1981. Inspired by a Dutch model of care built around warm, nurturing environments and deep personal connection, they helped shape the modern era of senior living. The Klaassens wanted Sunrise to be a place where residents are known as individuals, supported in their choices, and encouraged to continue living engaging, fulfilling lives. More than 45 years later, their vision continues to guide Sunrise.
