Today is International Nurses Day! Observed around the world, this day falls during Nurses Week in the US and Canada, as well as during the month of May, commonly celebrated as Nurses Month. Why today? International Nurses Day coincides with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing and a personal hero of mine.
Regardless of the month, we can agree that nurses deserve our thanks every day for their immeasurable contributions to our world. This observance gives all of us an opportunity to reflect on the role these healthcare heroes have played and continued to play in our lives. At Sunrise, we are we see the critical role they play in championing the quality of life for all seniors, serving thousands of residents and families over our 40 years, and all while proudly embodying Sunrise’s Mission each and every day.
It is fitting that this year’s theme for Nurses Week is “You Make a Difference” and “A Voice to Lead,” as our nurses have been instrumental leaders through Sunrise’s evolution to continue expanding the reach of our mission.
You Make a Difference
Throughout April, Sunrise continued its 40th anniversary celebration by highlighting its 40 Years of Outstanding Care, which was made possible by countless nurses and wellness team members delivering high-quality service spanning decades. Their personalized care not only enriches the lives of each resident, but also supports family members in a special way. Our team of serving hearts makes it possible for them to focus on being family rather than caregivers, making meaningful connections and building beautiful memories. Our nurses also recognize the importance of providing regular care updates to families so they can stay engaged and also help put their minds at ease knowing their loved ones are in Sunrise’s care.
Outstanding care and support often lead to wonderful feedback like this from a family member of a resident at Sunrise of Leominster in Massachusetts, which serves as a good reminder of the positive impact we make to thousands of live every day, “I am very pleased with my mom's care. The safety through COVID has been excellent. The communication has been very good, and her primary caregivers are all super.”
A Voice to Lead
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our Sunrise nurses held our hands. They continue to protect our communities and voice the needs of our valued residents. They tirelessly serve as our clinical leaders and champions alongside all our heroes in orange on the front lines. Throughout the pandemic and all the unprecedented challenges that have come their way, they have continued to prioritize the total well-being of our residents and consistently deliver top-quality, personalized care. I am honored to be a Sunrise teammate among them – cheering for their continued success.
This International Nurses Day, Nurses Week and Nurses Month, I encourage all of you to take time to thank the nurses in your life, past and present, and share with them your gratitude for their service, commitment, compassion, and dedication to care of others and, in Sunrise’s case, our senior residents.
Sunrise nurses, we thank you for Shining Bright, throughout Nurses Month and always.
